Awards
Your experience from a Model UN event will not be marked by winning and losing, instead it will be made significant by the resolutions you have passed, the friends you have made, and what you have learned in your committee. However, at ShawMUN we like to recognize certain delegates with awards marking their significant contribution to a committee. Depending on its size, about four to six delegates will come away with the accomplishment of winning an award. We recognize delegates for several reasons: it motivates the discussion in committee, it ensures outstanding delegates are rightfully recognized, and it is an accomplishment which will be recognized by universities and scholarships.
Best Delegate: This award goes to the delegate who has shown the greatest commitment, ingenuity, and diplomacy. They will be well researched and know their country and position extremely well. In addition, they have shown what it takes for success in Model UN not only by superior public speaking skills, but also leadership in their committee. This delegate will be presented a Shawnigan Model UN gavel and a certificate for their achievement.
Outstanding Delegate: This award is for a delegate who has shown many of attributes of the best delegate. They too have stood out because of excellent diplomacy and character. Their research has been impeccable and they have carried the flow of debate well. A certificate will be presented to them at the end of the conference.
Honourable Mentions: Depending on the size of the committee, between one to three of these awards will be presented. A delegate receiving an honourable mention will have shown significant improvement throughout the committee, a mastery of MUN procedure, and excellent diplomatic skills. They may not fit exactly into the mould of the other awards, but have still contributed significantly to the committee. They will receive a certificate at the end of the conference.
Best Position Paper: Through their position paper submission, it is evident that this delegate is the best researched in the committee. Not only is their paper well written, they have cited many sources, which reflect extensive research. Though a position paper is the main indicator of research, this delegate must also show their knowledge in committee. They will receive a certificate at the end of the conference.
