International Court of Justice
Topic: Legality of the Israeli economic blockade on the Gaza Strip
The Gaza Strip remains a focal point of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Despite the vacancy of Gaza from any settlers or military forces, Israel maintains a strong control over the economy and the region's borders. The blockade was instituted in full between 2006-2007 as a result of the violent rise of the Palestinian Hamas political party. Israel claims that the blockade is an important protectionist measure against the terrorist organization, Hamas. In order to restrict the influx of aid and weapon to the militia. However, numerous human rights have been violated by Israeli forces in Gaza and the West bank. This blockade has been detrimental on the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip; as it caused a damage to the economy, restrictions on necessary aid and the freedom of movement of its citizens. The International Court of Justice will be examining the legality of the Israeli economic blockade on the Gaza strip.
