The crisis in Mexico is very appalling and the delegates of SOCHUM (Social Cultural and Humanitarian) were tasked with coming up with solutions to tackle this crisis. Morocco started off by stating that a solution could be found and promises aid to Mexico. The American delegate immediately responded saying that the US would also help out but would not accept refugees. The French delegate suggested that agreement be reached quickly. Cambodia accused the US of intending to colonize Mexico, but the American delegate declared it false and said, “Colonization is not our priority and would not be. If we wanted to colonize Mexico, we would have done it, again!” In agreement with India, the South African delegate suggested all borders be closed after the unexpected kidnap of the Colombian delegate. The United Kingdom believes that rebuilding the Mexican government could be a possible solution to this crisis, but the American delegate did not deem this idea perfect to put a stop to the Mexican crisis. Instead, she stressed the need for solving the conflict before taking the idea of rebuilding the government into consideration.
Amusing enough, the US withdrew their proposal and declared full closure of its borders on Mexico immediately after Canada agreed to donate help to the refugees. The US emphasized there had been recent conflicts and the care of its citizens is its number one priority rather than the Mexican refugees. This sudden change of mind of the US rings a bell! Poland disagreed with the US and encouraged surrounding countries of Mexico to accept refugees regardless of the risks. At that point, the Cambodian delegate was set free and was able to actively take part in the conference. This finally led to the issue of economic support being sent to the countries accepting refugees which the delegate of Morocco explicitly said in his question to all delegates: “Are there countries willing to send economic supports to the countries accepting refugees and not to Mexico?”
