As the situation in Mexico continues, delegates at the United Nations SOCHUM committee meeting continue to discuss and settle disputes regarding international involvement. Anonymous sources filled WikiLeaks staff in on the proceedings of the committee, and it was revealed that certain delegates have brought forth outlandish and “ridiculous” plans of action. WikiLeaks staff were informed that the delegation of Iran has suggested that a large dome be built, enclosing Mexico and and everyone within the nation. In response to complaints and intense disagreement from many other delegates, Iran expressed interest in closing Mexican borders.
The delegation of Iran drafted a directive, stating: “Iran feels that Mexico should be quarantined and occupied by Iran.” The directive included stipulations stating that Iranian drug laws would be put in place in Mexico, in order to target the drug cartel. In response to concerns voiced by the other delegates, Iran revised the directive, stating that “Iran would give control back to the Mexican government” after the conflict had ceased. This directive failed.
Another directive was drafted by the delegates representing the United States, France and Croatia. The directive stated: “Sanctions [would be] imposed on Mexico”, and called for presence of UN forces “to quell violence”. American martial law would be put in place. This would indicate the presence of the American military in Mexico. The directive requested financial assistance for the Mexican people. This directive also failed.
After the failure of this crisis, the Dias informed the delegates that it would look favourably upon ending this crisis in order to continue discussing the topic of drug trafficking.
